Starting last week, I spent two days listening to each Radiohead album in an attempt to get a full appreciation for the band’s discography, since I think it’s weird that I’ve never actually listened to them. I mean, I know all of the songs everybody knows, like My Iron Lung, Creep, Karma Police, and the songs from In Rainbows, but I never listened to the albums in full. I just finished my two-day cycle for Kid A, and I’m gonna listen to Amnesiac starting tomorrow, but I wanted to post this song, because of the songs I’ve heard from them, I think it’s my favorite. Something about the line “ambition makes you look pretty ugly” and the beginning of the song really draw me to it. I really love OK Computer as a whole, and I can’t decide whether I like it as much or more than The Bends. The Bends is a terrific album too, but between Karma Police, Paranoid Android, and Exit Music (for a film), it’s hard to beat OK Computer as an album. I’m starting to see why everyone loves this band so much.

That said, I don’t like Kid A as much as everybody else does. I think the first half of the album is terrible, and were it not for “How To Disappear Completely”, it would be a total wash. The second half of the album, starting with  ”Optimistic”, is pretty good, but it’s nowhere near as enjoyable as The Bends or OK Computer. I feel like I have to add “in my opinion” to the end of this, or Radiohead purists will yell at me for not recognizing Kid A as the apex of musical genius that it is. Step off my nuts.

Speaking of pissing off hardcore Radiohead fans, I am sorry, but I don’t see why you guys hate Coldplay so much. Coldplay’s songs sound very similar to a lot of Radiohead’s stuff. I mean, no, Coldplay’s songs aren’t as good as Radiohead’s for the most part, but if you replaced Thom Yorke with Chris Martin, a lot of the songs would be indistinguishable. I can absolutely imagine Chris Martin singing “Optimistic”. I like Coldplay (not as much as Radiohead, sure, but still.) and I don’t see why people that like Radiohead hate them. Do you just feel like they’re copying Radiohead? I mean, I guess I can understand that. Anyway, I’m done ranting. i’m gonna to watch some movies or something. I’m way behind. More on that later.
